RGC and GSET Bronze Pilot Training for Teachers in Partner Schools

As part of RecellGhana ComputerLab’s efforts to drive digital education across schools in Ghana, RecellGhana ComputerLabs has collaborated with the Ghana Society for Education Technology (GSET), to develop training modules to support teachers in partner schools utilize computer labs to develop the digital skills of learners.

This bespoke training for partner schools has been introduced at four levels: base, bronze, silver and gold training.

On Tuesday, August 6th, and Wednesday, August 7th, RecellGhana ComputerLabs launched its pilot of the Bronze Training modules for teachers from partner schools at the premises of the Centre for National Distance Learning and Open Schooling (CENDLOS). This 2-day training is part of a series of training programmes designed to support present and future partner schools.

The Bronze training program consists of four comprehensive modules: Introduction to Computing, Productivity Software, Communication Networks and the Internet, and Computational Thinking (Algorithms). These modules were designed to better equip teachers to teach these concepts to their students.

  • Module 1– focused on foundational computing concepts, including essential hardware, software, and operating systems, which will help them introduce these basics to their learners.
  • Module 2 – focused on productivity software, where teachers learned how to use tools such as word processors, spreadsheets, and presentation programs to enable them to integrate these tools into their lessons effectively.
  • Module 3 – focused on communication networks and the internet, gaining a deeper understanding of networking basics and how these technologies can be utilized in the classroom.
  • Module 4 – focused on computational thinking and algorithms, acquiring problem-solving skills and methods to design algorithms that can be taught to students.

These trainings are aligned with Ghana’s computing curriculum and are specifically designed to empower teachers to deliver the curriculum more effectively, ensuring a richer and more impactful learning experience for learners.-
