RecellGhana ComputerLabs

RecellGhana Computerlabs is a Social Enterprise setup by RecellGhana and 1A Computerlabs.

Our purpose is to empower educational institutions with carefree Computerlab solutions that foster digital literacy, bridge the technology gap, and equipping learners with the skills and resources necessary to thrive in a technologically advancing world.

We’re on a mission to offer children in Ghana the opportunity to develop their ICT skills which are crucial 21st-century competences that will help launch Ghana into the digital age.

Purpose (Why)

Computerlabs Ghana delivers Computerlab-as-a-Service so that schools in Ghana can train their learners to acquire ICT-skills improving career opportunities, thereby contributing to the development needs of the society, without the need to invest in computer equipment or the headache for maintenance and internet.

Result (What)

Computerlabs Ghana aims to equip a minimum of 40 public schools in Greater Accra region by the end of 2024, reaching 12.000 learners, and develop a self-sustainable business model fitting the service in this market self-sustainable business model fitting the service in this market

Process (How)

  • By setting up a joint social venture between Recell from Ghana and 1A from Netherlands, the best of both worlds can be combined to solve the societal challenge to develop digital literacy (SDG 4) in a professional and entrepreneurial way. An agile development process is deployed to gradually achieve good services that fit the market.

On top of investments from both partners, DEG committed a grant to back this development of the service in Ghana and turn it into a self-sustainable business. Professional administration, bookkeeping, contracts and due diligence shall be deployed to deliver on business needs and DEG requirements

RecellGhana was established in 2012 by Moses Nana Aidoo. This repair and recycling company for computers and mobile phones is a recognised computer services company in Ghana.

Accredited by ETA and in cooperation with reputable companies in Europe, it delivers sustainable services with a positive impact on the environment and society.

We are prime suppliers of ICT-services that improve the life-cycle of electronics for our clients with a positive effect for the environment.

Procurement, installation, maintenance, repair and end-of-life services are all organised in-house in close cooperation with our clients in Ghana.

1A First Alternative the Netherlands is founded by Hanc de Bokx in 2001. This specialised ‘Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) company has developed its own technology to automatically manage and maintain computer networks on a distance. 1A Computerlabs is the subsidiary that is specialised in ‘Computerlab-as-a-Service’ for Education, using the same technology to the advantage of digital education at schools.
